What He Said (4/19-4/25)

Political ad analyses begin, and city adds jobs despite tough economic times.

The story: Mayor Joe Donaldson, running for his fifth term, runs a television spot that suggests challenger Sara Presler-Hoefle does not support the set of ballot initiatives that would benefit the city bus system.
The responses: The ad refers to Presler-Hoefle's non-support for the 2006 bus propositions but omits her support for the current props. Some posters, like AnnFlag, smelled deception: "Mayor Joe is following in what has become the great tradition of the once Grand Old Party -- political ads filled with distortion designed to mislead an unwary public." Lee thought, "Joe Donaldson needs to run a positive campaign so he does (not) come across looking so desperate." tom didn't see a problem: "It is not up (to) the Mayor to fill us in on all of his opponents views or positions."

......

The story: City officials announce that they would like to add 31 new positions in the "lean," upcoming fiscal year.
The responses:
Lean times? Another ExFlag is skeptical, maybe even cynical: "Lean for government is so much different than for the rest of us who in this economy end up having to make cuts." So is Funny facts: "Who at the City has the magic stick to create jobs when the economy is struggling.....If this is true and someone has a magic solution other than having to raise taxes, lets put this person in for president!"
