What He Said (3/29-4/4)

Event horizons on Butler Avenue await all those potential new buses -- for serious! Also, nothing else stokes conversation like illegal immigration.

The story: Every year Sun staffers contribute their collective wit to the April Fool's story. This year: Black holes create potholes. There's dinosaurs in them too. It's deep. Very deep.

The responses: Although sandy hodges lamented, "you folks are a bunch of idiots, of course what should we exspect for the media, games, lies, misinformation, thats all we get," and Bob rejected the creation as "garbage," the rest of the comments were more snickering than bickering: "I look forward to these every year," wrote Karen. "This is one of the best yet. Thanks for the giggle!"

......

The story: The upcoming city election asks voters to consider five propositions that seek to continue and enhance municipal bus service.

The responses: Many commenters, whether bus riders or not, encouraged support for the initiatives -- which, in addition to maintaining bus service (the defeat of Prop 401 would essentially dismantle the bus system), would add routes, increase frequency, and add roomier, more environmentally friendly hybrid buses to the fleet. YCPAT offered preliminary approval but cautioned bus backers to choose their allies wisely. Lori Lincoln urged, "Don't vote no unless you have ridden one and didn't like what you rode on. And if you never intend to ride a Mt Line bus, think of all the people who aren't taking up your parking spot and aren't in front of you at the traffic light! Go Mt Line!"
......

The story: NAU hosts a panel discussion on illegal immigration.

The responses: Lots of them, with several threads of discussion: Is being against illegal immigration racist? (Michael said, "By the way if someone calls me a racist they better duck." Trap'n, not speaking to Michael, said, "What are we to think when anti-immigration folks consistently have no answer for the "race-card"?") Did the students who interrupted the event with a loud protest of the unabashedly anti-illegal immigration Andrew Thomas act admirably? Do undocumented immigrants mostly cross over to support their families, and is this enough justification? And more. This was the most active discussion, with more than 40 posts in less than two days.
